About this project
Every Paper Pumpkin kit arrives with exactly enough to make the project on the card, but there is almost always more in the box than the instructions use. In this tutorial I take one month’s kit and build three projects the instructions do not mention: a set of smaller note cards, a gift tag set, and a small treat box that uses the leftover patterned pieces. Nothing here needs anything you do not already have in the kit apart from adhesive and a trimmer.

Step-by-step instructions

- Inventory first Lay every piece out and count what the instructions actually use. What is left over is your working material — and there is usually more than you expect.
- Make the kit project first Build what the kit intends before improvising. It tells you how the pieces are meant to relate to each other.
- Trim down for note cards Cut the largest leftover panels to 4-1/4" x 2-3/4" and pair them with plain card bases.
- Punch the tags Use the offcuts for tags. Curved offcuts often make better tags than square ones.
- Build the treat box The patterned strips wrap a small box beautifully. Score at 1", wrap, and finish with the kit ribbon.
A tip from experience
Keep a single labeled envelope for kit leftovers rather than a drawer. When you have three or four months of envelopes you have a whole extra project sitting there.
