About this project
The double slider is the fun fold I get asked about most, and it looks far harder than it is. The whole mechanism comes from one sheet of cardstock, two score lines and a single slot cut with your paper snips. When the front panel is pulled, the inner panel travels the opposite way and the greeting appears in the middle. In this tutorial I walk through the measurements slowly, show you the one place people usually go wrong, and then decorate three different versions so you can see how the same fold works for a birthday, a thank you and a Christmas card.

Step-by-step instructions

- Cut and score the card base Cut cardstock to 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" and score at 4-1/4" on the long side. Burnish the fold with a bone folder so it sits flat.
- Cut the slider panel Cut a second piece to 4" x 5-1/4". This is the panel that will travel, so keep the edges clean and square.
- Cut the travel slot Mark 1" in from each side on the front panel and cut a 2" horizontal slot. Cut it slightly wider than your slider tab — this is the step people rush, and a tight slot is what makes a slider stick.
- Assemble the mechanism Thread the tab through the slot and adhere it to the back of the slider panel. Test the travel before any decoration goes on.
- Adhere the frame Add adhesive only around the outer border of the card front, never across the slot. This is where the mechanism gets glued shut if you are not careful.
- Decorate and stamp the greeting Stamp the hidden greeting on the inner panel first, then build the front decoration. Working inside-out means you can check the reveal lines up.
A tip from experience
If your slider catches, the slot is almost always a hair too narrow rather than the tab being too thick. Run your paper snips through the slot a second time rather than forcing the panel — forcing it tears the cardstock and there is no fixing that once it has happened.
